Have you ever attempted to outrun God about something...and he does a hard correction? Sometimes, I feel like Eve, hunched behind that bush, naked and shivering to see what the outcome of this disobedience is going to be. / God is beyond faithful and patient beyond anything I can fathom. But he is our Father and he does discipline those whom he loves. For about two months now, as I examine and reexamine how I spend my time, what my motives are, the condition of my heart, what the focus of Life, Abundantly should be... He keeps telling me to "just write". Not Facebook posts and well-intentioned instastories. Curriculum. JUST WRITE CURRICULUM. / He's told me and shown me again and again, that despite believing I have a book inside me that's just about Jesus (and that may be true), that he has equipped me and promoted me to write homeschool curriculum. He's shown me that to help encourage and equip others moms in the sacred calling of home education is unlike anything else. He's shown me that to do anything other than this may be GOOD, but it's not my best yes and it's not what he's called me to. / I keep finding ways to occupy my time and thoughts that are not aligned with what he's clearly directing me to. I keep running off course. And the longer I am derailed, the more firmly he corrects me. In staying so focused on "being a blogger", I find myself distracted, short-tempered, and not minding my primary ministry: my family. Not to mention, once again, allowing my own health (which is already hanging on by a string) to be sidelined. / I feel like God's having a moment with me where he's like: IF I'VE TOLD YOU ONCE, I'VE TOLD YOU A MILLION TIMES... / I believe that December is a phenomenal time to take a social media breather. My intention is to not be dramatic but to let everyone know my heart, God's plan, and how to reach me. I won't be on FB or Instagram at all, or their related messengers. I'm fully reachable via email at Erin@lifeabundantlyblog.com or text (if you know me personally). / I'm excited to set my eyes on Christ alone, creating treasured memories, healing my body and heart, and walking in FULL OBEDIENCE to God as I continue on this best yes journey

Consider it great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:3-4 / I don't like testing and trials. They're uncomfortable, sticky, complicated, painful, and they *seem* so unnecessary. When there's a trial, we see suffering and loss, and we question how there can possibly be anything GOOD in this mess. / And here's James saying that our GREAT JOY is that we experience trials? Dude. What? / Our trials test our faith. Yes, they do. And this is to be our GREAT JOY? Wouldn't God be upset to see that out faith is testable? Aren't we supposed to be unwavering and steadfast? / God knows that we can never be perfect in our faith. He knows that it will be tested again and again. He never expects us to be free of doubt or challenges that leave us shaking a fist saying: WHERE WERE YOU?!? What he does expect is our endurance in those trials. / That as we shake our fist and ask where he was, we continue to listen for his answer. That despite our frustration and questioning, we stay in communion. That through every tear or angry prayer, our wavering faith is rebuilt and restructured and refined--more permanent, more wise, more confident in the hope we cling to. / Only when we question will we receive answers. The harder we pursue him, the more present he is. Yes- trials PRODUCE endurance and faith. When we press into the source of all wisdom, we come out covered in it, lacking nothing. When we lack nothing? Joy. / Whatever it is friend... A big loss, a big setback, a dilemma that you can't see the answer to, a coldness in your marriage, a child who makes every day an overwhelming challenge... Let him know! Draw near, pour it out, lay it down at the cross. Press into the testing, let it change you and your circumstances from the inside out. Hi there! I've had several new friends join me on this journey the past few weeks, so I want to introduce myself and give everyone an update on several projects I'm working on ❤️ 💙 Here are 6 facts about me: 1- I'm Erin. Not Aaron, Erwin, Karen, or Sharon. (I've gotten them all). My middle name is Elizabeth. I kept it rather than my maiden because Sowell seemed to be more confusing than Erin even is for some. So yes, I have a double-Walton name 😊. #ilovetheWaltons 🎉 2- I have 4 babies. My girls are 14 and 12 and boys are 3 and very-close-to-2. My girls were 25m apart then we quit. We waited 9 years, reversed a vasectomy and quickly added 2 more (15m apart). Hardest best ever. 🌿 3- My hubby and I have been together since we were 11, married for 16.5 years. We were just 20 when we said I do. ❤️ 4- I have a bachelor's in business and finance, am a licensed insurance agent (life, health, property, and casualty) but spend all my time teaching and training little ones and writing. 🌳 5- I love Jesus. A lot. He's my greatest comfort and my closest friend. He informs each of my steps, makes a way, and is the rescuer of my soul. I met him almost 12 years ago and am overwhelmed by his astounding grace and goodness everyday. ❤️ 💕 6- I love personality tests. I'm an INFJ. I'm an Enneagram 3 w6 (also strong w7). Only 3% of the population are INFJ and only 1% of INFJ are an enneagram 3. It's also very odd to be a 3 with a 6 wing. I'm an oddity. 🤷‍♀️ / What's going on with Life, Abundantly right now? So many memories hung upon a tree. Handmade ornaments. Hand-me-down ornaments. Paper, glass, wooden, clay. Carved from stone, adhered with glue, colored with love, painted with sacred. / For years I strove after a "picture perfect tree"... One that would cost so much money and attention to trim. One cut from a magazine. Then I rebelled. One year, I walked into my yard, cut down a pine sapping, strew vintage bulbs upon its sad Charlie-Brown limbs and called it a day. I'd gotten too absorbed in all the shoulds and coulds and forgot about the woulds. / Would my Savior have me anoint a tree with love and expense, irritated by hands that want to help? Or would my Savior instead mount a tree on his back, paint it with his blood, and string himself upon it like a light that would never dim? Indeed, he would. / My perception of this tree, what's its meant to be and means to me has changed and evolved with my faith and understanding of sacrifice. Last year, in the wake of big loss, my hubby got me the flocked tree I'd always dreamt of. It stood as a proud monument to my mom and all she meant to me. This year, I come full circle. In a house that's filled with the smell of her ham, with Santas dancing all around, chosen by her hand, and a tree that now stands for all the woulds I ever could. / Would I let little hands handle all my treasures made by hands that made them? Would I let them load the bottom heavy, break a few in the process, and light this tree with memories and laughter? Would I remember that this sacred celebration of the coming of a Savior means laying down every plan, every expectation, every delusion of anything perfect other than Him? Indeed, yes I would. / May your tree be strewn with memories from generations ago, overflowing with laughter and joy, stocked fully with gifts announcing the coming of our most sacred gift of all. May your heart overflow, friend, with the love of Christ, the eternity in our hands, and the smattering of little faces all around you, wanting to touch, feel, and taste that the Lord is good.
